Middle School Social Studies Teacher

St. Stephen's Episcopal School, a day and boarding school of 705 students (grades 6-12), is seeking an Middle School Social Studies Teacher for a full-time position beginning August 1, 2023. 

Qualified candidates must have experience teaching history or social studies. We are searching for a teacher who relishes the freedom of curricular development and who can share examples of activities, assignments, and methods of engaging curious, energetic, middle schoolers. This teacher will work closely with the 6th and 8th-grade teachers for curriculum alignment and development. The Middle School social studies/history curriculum is designed to help students build strong citizenship and effective learning skills. All courses are designed to promote the understanding of humankind’s connections with place, environment, and one another.  This job will involve developing social studies curriculum that explores the complexities of humanity while also teaching civics engagement and media education skills.  

Duties include:

  • Teach four sections of seventh-grade Social Studies/History,
  • Serve as an advisor to a group of Middle School students,
  • Contribute to other areas of school life, including athletic or extracurricular programs,
  • Supervise students in Chapel, proctor study halls and participate in a family-style lunch program,
  • Serve on a grade-level team.
