Upper School Chaplain and Theology Teacher
St. Stephen’s Episcopal School in Austin, Texas, a grades 6-12 day and boarding school of 705 students in the Episcopal Diocese of Texas, is seeking a full-time Chaplain and Theology Teacher for the Upper School. The position has an anticipated start date of August 1, 2023.
The Upper School Chaplain will join the Head of School, Head Chaplain, Middle School Chaplain, and Lay Chaplain to serve as one of the primary stewards of programming to support the school’s Episcopal identity of being a caring, diverse community, inclusive of all faiths and grounded in the Christian tradition, which nurtures moral growth and values the potential and dignity of every human being.
The Upper School Chaplain’s primary responsibilities will include:
Teach 12th-grade Theology classes;
Along with the Head Chaplain, preside four times per week at Upper School chapel worship services;
Assist residential worship, including Sunday worship;
Provide pastoral care to students, faculty, and staff in the Upper School;
Provide programming in Christian education, as appropriate, for Upper School students including those who might be preparing for baptism, confirmation, or reception;
Manage Upper School service learning program;
Participate in Upper School administrative meetings.
Qualified candidates must have theological and pastoral training either through graduate-level study (e.g., M.Div). Preferred candidates will be ordained in the Episcopal Church and have experience leading worship with young people.
