Director of College Counseling 2023-24

St. Stephen's Episcopal School, a day and boarding school of 705 students (grades 6-12), is seeking a Director of College Counseling for a full-time position beginning August 2023. 

The St. Stephen’s counseling staff currently includes four directors and a full-time office manager. The Directors of College Counseling report to the Head of Upper School.

The responsibilities of the Director of College Counseling may include, but are not limited to the following: 

  • Advising and guiding a caseload of approximately 30-35 students per grade through the college application and selection process; 
  • Assisting in the dissemination of college information to parents through scheduled presentations and individual conferences; 
  • Writing letters of recommendation for seniors and communicating with college admissions offices; 
  • Participating in such professional development opportunities that will contribute to the individual’s professional growth and keep the college counseling office abreast of current developments in college admissions and education, in general;
  • Representing the school at events and activities that will enhance and promote the image of the school and further communication with college admission professionals; 
  • With the other members of the college counseling office, hosting the college admission representatives who travel to the St. Stephen’s campus; 
  • Meeting the ethical standards of the college admission profession as articulated by the National Association for College Admission Counseling; 
  • Serving on school committees and participating in other school activities as defined by school administrators; 
  • Sharing in the day-to-day life of the school community and furthering the school’s mission; 
  • Participating in a highly collaborative leadership structure and engaging in ongoing assessment and reimagining of methods, approaches, and programming. 

Qualified candidates will have extensive experience as a college admissions officer and/or college counselor. Experience working in an independent school is preferred.
